2018 in Review:
2018 has been such a fun year. And by fun, I mean chaotic, wonderful, challenging and yes, fun. Like running a distance race fun, not like eating-ice-cream-fun. The type of fun that is made of grit, sweat and lots of Starbucks. A handful of my favorite posts that sum up this year include: A Thank you letter from my toddler, My Favorite Phase and Daycare, a Surprise Blessing.
My 2018 goals were:
You can see the 2018 goals post here, but in a nut shell they were: learn a yoga pose (the one where you put your foot by your head), drink less but better wine and to get monthly massages. Well, I am happy to report that the monthly-massage goal wins most achieved at 83% (10/12 months). The wine goal is probably met. I don’t really have a good way to measure this one but I think I’ll give it to myself. And the yoga pose…well…that one has been the least attended too. I’m ok with that because barre class has kinda become my thing recently, even over yoga. I’m sure I’ll get back to it one day, but for now, I’m granting myself flexibility (see what I did there?)
I really feel like in 2018 I needed these goals. Ones that revolved heavily around self care. It was my first full year as a mom and I dove into full time work as well. And in case you don’t know, babies have a knack for night parties. So the exhaustion was real.
But in 2019, I’ve got new visions and new 2019 goals.
I recently read, well listened to, Girl Wash Your Face and I’m ready to take this new year on. I mean, I plan to keep the self-care things up, but its time to step up my game, which means new goals. True to my goals beliefs these 2019 goals are things that 1. I can look forward to and 2. that will help me become the best version of myself.
So here are my 2019 goals:
- Invest in at least one conference that is related to my passion of writing/and or creativity. I’ve got my eye on this one which was highly recommended by a friend, but I don’t have any commitments made just yet.
- To invest more time, creativity and joy into this blog. I would like to blog weekly, although I say that knowing that with a day-job weekly is probably NOT going to happen, but its the goal. I have some really exciting blog topics we are going to focus on, starting with creativity in January. I’m so excited to share these upcoming blog posts with you!
- Read the Bible. I have all of 24 hours to come up with a plan for this. And I don’t mean the whole Bible either. I just want to ready the bible daily. Anyone have a good bible reading guide they can sent my way, I need it!
What about you, what are your 2019 goals?
I hope this post finds you enjoying some time with family and friends. We’ve been spending this week with my parents in College Station who recently got a “Hey Google” device. So we’ve spent a lot of of asking Google questions about the weather, and her favorite colors and such things. These are mildly entertaining and a great way to waste time.
Ray is getting completely spoiled by his grandparents and ate only the toddler version of Cheetos yesterday. I don’t have the energy for implementing regular, healthy meals for my child. Especially on vacation. You want to eat Cheetos all day? Have at it.
Here’s the deal, I know the down time wont last. Mostly because I’ve seen my January calendar and I’ll be traveling for work almost half the month. Don’t worry, I’ve got podcasts and audio books all lined up for the travels. But for now I’m relishing the laziness.
I will leave you with these words from Rachel Hollis in Girl, Wash Your Face, ““You, and only you, are ultimately responsible for who you become and how happy you are.” I know this quote is generic and a little cheesy, but y’all its true. You and I are in charge of ourselves and our attitudes this next year, lets make it a good one.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
