Have you ever thought that you’re not where you’re supposed to be? Perhaps you got on the subway of life heading the wrong direction?
Well, friend, I’m here to reassure you that you were made to be where you are right now. Even better, I want to point you to the word(s) of God that tell us this.
“Made for Where You are Right Now” may not be a popular hashtag, but it’s true.
Happy Hour Live
You see Months ago my husband bestowed a blessing on me by agreeing to take my near two-year-old on for the weekend and letting me fly to Austin for a girls weekend with my BFF.
Now my BFF and I, we know how to do a girls weekend. (See this post of our Pack Up and Go trip or this post on a previous Austin trip) But this specific trip was especially dear as I bought tickets to go see one of my all time favorite podcasters Jamie Ivey at her live event The Happy Hour Live.
Because my job in medical sales has me on the road as much as 6 hours a day, I consider myself a podcast aficionado. Chick-fil-A and McDonalds are often my real food on these long days, but The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey is my soul food. Jamie hosts conversations with other women who are movers and shakers for Jesus.
The event itself was refreshing. I even got to meet Jamie for a hot second!
We had dinner, drinks, met some new friends and got to watch conversation and banter between three remarkable women: Jamie Ivey, Catherine Lowe and Amy Hannon.
Then at one point, something Jamie said something that stuck with me, “God has you where you are right now for a reason and this is actually based in scripture…”
For a second I choose to immediately dismiss this.
God, are you sure?
My life is WAY to mundane and far too hectic for this to be my calling.
My days are typically filled with driving a car with over 170,000 miles. It’s littered with stale Chick-fil-a fries and empty Starbucks cups. And as of recent you will find me crying or cussing (or both) because my two year old has hit yet another sleep regression and I thought we graduated from those months ago!
Even as I write this, my little one is attempting to destroy our coffee table with a set of ink stamps from his grandmother (thank you, mom).
It’s fine. It’s only from Anthropologie.
When I finish most days, between daycare, dishes and work, I often feel like I’m barely surviving.
But here is what scripture says about where you and I are, regardless of how we feel:
“From one man he made all the nations…and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands…In Him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:26-28
So guess what?
You and I, we are within His boundaries. Maybe you’re bringing him glory by changing diapers, grocery shopping and ensuring that the littlest members of the family stay alive from one moment to another. Maybe its by diligently overseeing excel spreadsheets, maybe its driving for Uber or maybe its something totally different.
Here’s the point: He’s using you there.
To clarify, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t dream or strive for more.
We should. Certainly, too, there are times God calls and leads us to changes. But keep in mind that God is using us right now, right where we are. Big, small, glamorous or common. We tend to think through a lens of money and fame, but he thinks in kingdom terms which is far beyond our understanding.
So in conclusion, I will close with Psalms 23:1. Which reads simply, “The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want.”
Yes, you may be familiar with the rest of the verse. But I like ending it right here at “I shall not want.” Knowing that the that He is our Shepard and that alone is enough for today.
Until next time, cheers y’all!
