After being inspired to be more intentional, I’ve decided to focus on reading more scripture. There are lots of verses on this, but for today, I’m sharing Psalm 1:
“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the course of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law, he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water which yields fruit in its season and leaf does not wither. In whatever he does he prospers”
I love the idea of a set aside quiet time with the Bible.
Just reading scripture as I sip coffee, overlooking some kind of gorgeous landscape. But lets be real, right now I’m in survival mode. My vices consist of, but are not limited to, Starbucks iced lattes, red wine from a box and the snooze button.
I’ve mentioned this before, but for real, just getting out the door each morning is a great achievement. I’m talking gold metal.
To make matters worse, after almost 2 months of 12 hours of sleep, waking only once to eat, Baby Ray has caught a horrible case of sleep regression. Here I was expecting him to drop his night feed any day, and BAM, the opposite happens.
Oh, the pain of sleepless nights.
So here’s how I’m being more intentional with reading scripture in a way that I can carry out right now. Busy life, sleep deprivation and all.
I’m simply, writing it down and putting in places I see daily. Like on note cards in my car.
Or my favorite, on my breast pump.
I researched a lot of verses for the pump, but decided on Exodus 3:8.
“So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey…”
Its a wonderful reminder that God rescued the Israelites and, if we seek him, he will rescue us too. Oh, and lets not forget the pun of “land flowing with milk and honey.” That’s the real reason it won.
The goregous hand lettering is by my friend Racheal Pace. She is beautiful inside and out, and clearly, SO talented. Her Esty store is here in case you need something she has beautifully crafted.
So, no, its not a 30 minute serene commune time with God. But our God is big. He met Paul on the Road to Damascus, he met a Samaritan woman at a water well and he will meet us too. In the busy, in the mundane. In the car, in the elevator, in the parking lot pumping or where ever daily life leads.
As for now, this is my way to read scripture. Do you have any ways you like to squeeze time in with the Word or God? Please share. I’m going to go relax and hope you have a great relaxing Sunday evening as well.
