Today I’m sharing 10 fashion companies that do good for the world. This post is part of our February focus on ethical fashion and I’m excited to share these with you. These are companies whose mission is as wonderful and beautiful as their products.
Finding companies that do good for the world became a passion of mine a years ago when I started implementing a wardrobe capsule. These days,I no longer do a strict numbered wardrobe capsule, but I’m continually mindful of what I’m wearing and purchasing.
This is what I love the most: by simply being an intentional consumer, we can make the world a better place.
So here it is, my favorite 10 fashion companies that do good for the world:
1.Noonday
Many of you already know I am very passionate about noonday. Truly, if my life season wasn’t already absolutely full, I would be an ambassador and sell Noonday myself. But I have no space for this currently. So for now, I just buy all the things. Noonday is a company with a mission to bring jobs to places and people who are in poverty and provide them a career with fair wages and even job perks like having an onsite daycare. They have partnered with many countries and continue to grow.
Jessica Honeggar’s story of founding noonday is incredible and we will take a deeper look at it in a future post. You can also read about it in her book Imperfect Courage.
2.TOMS
TOMS has a one for one model, meaning simply that you when buy a pair of shoes they give a pair of shoes to someone in need. For better or worse, I’m not sure, but I’m obsessed. Currently, I own 5 pairs, baby Ray owns 3 pairs and my hubby owns one pair. So its fair to say we love TOMS.
Also, TOMS recently took an active role in trying to prevent gun violence. Recently they donated 5 million dollars, the largest corporate donation to date, in an attempt to help end gun violence.
3. Sudara
These are very cute patterned clothes and pants who are sewn by women who were once victims of sex trafficking in India. I own a pair of these pants and not only love the style and fit, but love how versatile they are. I can dress them up for work or down for just running errands around town.
4. Root Collective
Y’all. These shoes are truly on another level. They are cute, they are funky and they provide jobs for various communities throughout Guatemala. I own a pair of their flats, but have my eye on a pair of their boots. Maybe for next winter, we’ll see!
5. Thred Up
Thred UP is an online re-sale shop that takes name brand clothes and re-homes them! I love their goal to “leave the planet sustainable for the next generation — saving water, recycling and reusing items, and donating to important causes.”
I have bought and sold clothes on Thred Up and did a whole blog post reviewing the pros and cons HERE.
6. Rothys
After hearing so many great things about Rothy’s from co-workers, I finally bought a pair. They are definitely cute and comfortable, but what I really love about Rothy’s is they are environmentally friendly. They are made out of recycled water bottles! In fact, Rothy’s currently has recycled 20 million water bottles. Amazing!
7. Emilime
I met the founder of this company years ago in New Year at a little booth in central park. They partner with artisans in Peru to create the most beautiful alpaca mittens, arm warmers and neck warmers. The arm warmers I bought are still one of my favorite cold weather accessories to this day.
8. Bombas socks
Ever drove by someone on the side of the road with a sign begging for money and wondered “isnt there something better I can do for this person?”
The answer is yes!
By buying Bombas socks, you are providing homeless shelters with Bombas socks. For every pair purchased, the company donates a pair to a homeless shelter, which by the way is the number one requested item by homeless shelters. So far they have donated more than 15 million pairs of socks! What a cool way to give back.
9. Sock Club
While we’re on the topic of socks – these are fair trade, American made sock. The designs are super fun and color so they make great gifts! You can get them sent month by month as part of a subscription, which is a super fun for the recipient.
10. Local thrift stores
Ok, not exactly a company, but local thrift stores are so undervalued. Last post, I mentioned how fashion is on a carousel. I believe that some of the cutest finds are sitting at your local thrift store, probably for a super cheap price too! I shared on social media recently the perfect dress I found for my Molly Ringwald look alike I did recently for an 80’s themed company party. (You can see the picture on Facebook or Instagram). And while I LOVE thrift shops for dressing up, they can supply daily out fits as well. No need to always buy brand new.
I’m a big believer in these fashion companies that do good and I use each one of them.
But you’re way of being an intentional consumer is going to be different from mine.
Maybe you don’t use any of these companies at all, maybe you know of other companies that you like to support and thats great. Please share it with me, as I’m always adding to my favorites.
We all have different lifestyles and budgets, which must be adhered to. But what is important is that you are doing it – being mindful. With only the companies listed above you can help impact a number of countries (Peru, Guatamala, India and right here in America are a few that come to my head immediately)!
Figure out what works for you in ways that you can implement. I hope I’ve provided some inspiration and encouragement!
Until next week y’all, cheers!
