I’m not the artist I aspire to be. Which is why I dig simple crafts, like watercolor, which we all mastered at age 4. And guess what – its still awesome. So I’m bringing it back.
I’m pretty sure anyone can water color, so you should totally make this craft:
Watercolor quotes!
This quote is inspired by this Honest Toddler post from a new found HILAROUS blog – The Honest Toddler. Go ahead, read it, you may laugh until you cry. All her posts are pretty great so you should peruse while you’re over there. We don’t have kids at all, and I’m still loving it.
For sometime our poor hallway has been desperate for art or pictures or something besides plain paint.
I decided to make and frame a few favorite quotes. The great thing about these watercolor quotes is that they are SUPER cheap to make, so I can change them out when I get tired of reading them need new inspiration from the walls.
I made three quotes and framed them = happy hallway.
Well, they aren’t all quotes.
Me and the boy just started beach body’s T25 program and we made a goal to do it 4 times a week (yes I know you’re supposed to do it 5 times, we’re big rebels. Also we’re busy.) I decided to watercolor our goal, that way, I have to walk by it and see it everyday. That means there will be no cheating, lest I drown in guilt.
Side note – we are sore.
All you need for this craft is:
- A paint brush
- Liquid frisket (really don’t try it without this, I learned the hard way. Its like rubber cement in a small tube which allows you to write your words, paint over them, then peel off the paint for nice white words). I got mine from amazon with the top that allows you to write, link is here.
- water color, water color paper, water
Steps:
1. Take your liquid frisket and draw or write what you want on your water color paper. Wait until it is totally dry (mine took 1-2 hours). The liquid frisket will look clear and yellowish when it drys, but don’t worry it will be peeled off in the end.
2. Dip your paint brush in water and paint the BACK of your paper until it is wet all over. This is important as it will keep your paper from rolling up when it dries.
3. Get your water colors out as well as a cup of water and paint. I used 3 colors of similar shades that easily blended together, but you can go as crazy as you want OR just keep it simple with one color.
4. Wait for your water color to dry. If you peel too early the paper will peel off with the frisket, so take no risk.
5. Last – peel your liquid frisket off and all your writing will be white and have a nice contrast from your painting!
I made a few cards too:
Use the same steps above, just cut your water color paper in half and fold to make the card.
Happy watercoloring, I hope you enjoy connecting with your inner 4 year old.
