I hope this post finds you in good company and full of good food. We are thankful for so much this year, especially for sweet baby Ray…who clearly had too much turkey yesterday 😉
Thanksgiving break has been very restful. And when I say restful, I don’t necessarily mean sleep, because lets be real, the baby still isn’t sleeping through the night. But rest as in a break. A pause from the all the busy stuff that infiltrates the day to day, and if never muted starts to feel like so much static.
Breaks are restorative and vital because we were created for them.
“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.” Exodus 34:21
These past few months have been pretty hectic at our house. The boy’s work load has been increasing and I’ve been pretty busy as well adjusting to work with a baby and without sleep. Because of all this, we decided to take the whole week off to enjoy Texas, starting with a few nights at Tres Lunas, a B&B in Texas hill country.
Sweet Baby Ray stayed with his Granny Cindy and Dr. Papa where he was well cared for royally spoiled. So, yes, for those three nights I actually did get to indulge in sleep.
This is a little chapel at Tres Lunas.
Where is Tres Lunas?
Tres Lunas is really out there. Past Austin, past Marble Falls, somewhere near Llano, wherever that is. I’m talking half an hour driving 20 MPH on wondering dirt roads, going over more cattle guards than I could count, no-phone-service-kinda out there. They claim to have wifi, but don’t think you’re gonna get on Pinterest or even send an email out, because that aint gonna happen.
What to do?
The good news is, they are stocked with all you need for a restful break. From yoga mats, yoga blocks and blankets, a cozy fire place, to an infinity pool/hot tub and even a giant Texas style breakfast. Crispy bacon, coffee and homemade sour dough biscuits y’all.
I love this line from their website, “We say ‘Namaste’ and we wear cowboy boots. But when we’re by the pool, we’re barefoot.”
We had intentions of doing some hill country hiking, but then had a horrible flash back to our honey moon when I signed us up for an “advanced” hike up one of St. Lucia’s Pitons. Lets just say I over estimated my fitness level by a long shot. I can STILL feel pain in my quads just thinking about it. So there was that. Oh, and we were also strongly warned about rattle snakes in the area….so we opted to partake in some hill country winery’s instead.
Yes, we brought Catan to play with our wine. Thats not weird, right?
Unfortunately, the boy totally smoked me.
We also spent a lot of time in the hot tub and I did some pool side yoga.
It was the perfect setting for yoga, with cows and deer in the pasteur below and lots of sunshine. Ever since I got into yoga, I’ve been hooked, but clearly have work to do.
Our little break was truly restful and amazing.
Of course, we missed baby Ray and were super happy to see him after a few days away. Now we are enjoying time with family, and friends and a belly full of thanksgivings best.
Special thanks to Dr. Papa and Granny Cindy for allowing us a few days away, and especially for braving a few long nights with Baby Ray. He promises to repay y’all soon 🙂
