Finally a post to share about the Settlers of Catan Shower! But baby Rose updates first 🙂
Since I’m officially 39 weeks today, the baby doesn’t really have any more developing to do at this point. It just drinks lattes, does ditties and takes naps. I was hoping he or she would read last weeks blog post and join us a tad bit early, but no dice.
I’m starting to get lots of Braxton Hicks, especially at night. I’m considering it a good sign that my utterus is getting some practice laps in. The only down side is, its just one more thing that keeps me awake. So the sleepless nights continue. In good news, last week when I talked to my doctor, she said as long as labor progresses, she will let me have the baby naturally. Huge sigh of relief after my giant baby meltdown.
I bought the baby some flowers at the grocery store this week, so it would have something pretty to come home to. Nothing fancy, but I think he or she will appreciate the gesture.
Onto the Settlers of Catan baby shower!
My two dear cousins threw this shower for sweet baby Rose and me. We are all about 2 weeks apart in age, so we’ve been able to spend lots of holidays and family vacations together and managed to stay close through the years.
How about a then and now? Just because.
I’m guessing we are circa 4 years old here.
And 31 here. The only difference is that now that beach ball has been traded in for a real baby belly. So fun to have seen each other through so many life adventures…and they keep coming!
Neither of these ladies are familiar with the game Settlers of Cantan. But, I have to say, they did a fabulous job embracing this very unique theme.
Here are a few of my favorite highlights from the shower:
- The Settlers of Catan diaper cake! My very creative cousin Amber managed to find wooden hexagon containers to stash diapers in. Then she topped it with the most precious sheep, who is now decor for the Catan themed nursery. Even the little blankets have a nice natural look to them.
- The settlers of Catan sign in.
So my favorite story about this piece is how she accidentally bought an octagon paper cutter and had cut a ton of little octagons, but then realized catan is all hexagons! I probably wouldn’t have even noticed, but she said she HAD to go to back to hobby lobby and start again.
Everyone who came to the shower signed their name on a hexagon and now this piece is also hanging in our nursery.
- The Settlers of Catan cupcakes.
Since one cousin was traveling from Georgia and the other from Texas, I offered to make these. Plus, I just enjoy doing little edible crafts sometimes. These are actually sugar cookies which we put on top of cupcakes. This was my first attempt at an edible Catan board, and while not perfect, I think they came out pretty good!
- The “Let’s settle this” baby gender and weight guessing sheet.
People used sheep clothespins to guess gender and weight. SO cute.
- Friends and family, of course!
Me and mom Cindy. She’s the best.
And more family, including my sweet granny, aunt, cousins and dad (not pictured) who all came from either Texas or Georgia to join!
Me and a few of artsy friends! Notice how Michelle and I are twinsies. Great minds dress alike, I suppose 😉
There were several other people not pictured here who joined. Thank you all for the baby Rose love!
Say a prayer for next week, that I’m not sitting here typing a come-on-baby blog post.
I’m SUPER hopeful baby Rose will be here!
Its been interesting to interact with strangers these past few days. A lot of time they ask me if today’s the day and I usually tell them I hope so. Then, yesterday at Best Buy one of the workers started telling me about all 3 of her girls and their different personalities and how one of them is super feisty and another is real sweet… And one guy asked me why I didn’t put a bandaid over my belly button. Eh, I got bigger things to worry about than my belly button status.
Anyhow, I’m entering this week with lots of prayer. I still, even at 39 weeks pregnant, get nervous about having an actual baby, both physically and just being a parent. I cannot get my head around having a tiny human living and growing up with us for the next, oh, 18 years. But then I’m quick to remember its a bit too late to contemplate all those things. I sure hope thats normal.
I was really dreading labor, until I had a co-worker who pointed out that there’s really no point in that. Which is true. Might as well embrace it. Apparently, my body is “made for this”. Although, I still feel like God could have devised a different game plan. And being so uncomfortable does help me want this baby to come regardless. So I guess thats one thing.
I’ve been listening to this song a lot lately and I think it’ll be my labor theme song:
There’s a mountain
Here before me
And I’m going to climb it
With strength not my own
He’s gonna lead me
Or the mountain beats me
Carry me through
Carry me through
There’s a river
Here before me
And I’m gonna cross it
with strength not my own
He’s gonna save me
Or the river takes me.
Carry me through
Carry me through
Oh Lord be gentle
I’m just a man
Please don’t crush me
Help me in.
Oh Lord remember
I try so hard
I walk and talk
Your kingdom love
There’s a sinner
Here before me
And I’m gonna give them
Strength not my own
He’s gonna carry me
when I get weary
Carry me through
Carry me through
Oh Lord be gentle
I’m just a man
Please don’t crush me
And help me in
