Mardi Gras
I know Mardi Gras isn’t a big deal everywhere, but in New Orleans its like an extra Christmas. Except with different colors, different music and less commericalized religious affiliation. Theres an energy in the air, people get into it and oh, the king cake. Its. So. Good.
This will be our fourth Mardi Gras here (see last years Mardi Post here), but it will be Ray’s first. The boy and I will both be off on Tuesday for a much needed break. Our plans include starting our day with beignets and coffee, taking Ray to the local parade and then Catan and wine.
Its super fun to see how everyone around here embraces Mardi Gras. Or runs away from it. Most schools get the week off. I went to drop Ray off on Friday, only to find that half of his class has gone to Disney world!
For those that stuck around, the school had a parade on Friday and the preschoolers rode in wagon “floats” and threw beads to the crowd. Ray gets to be in the parade next year, but he just watched from his four-friend-stroller this year.
Of course he found some time to make a little Mardi Gras craft with his feet.
Additionally, the airport threw a Mardi Gras parade for travelers this week and I found myself working out to Mardi Gras music in our spin class!
Work Life Update
Now that I’m working full time things have been extra hectic. My travel weeks are especially special, I’ll just say between all the different clinics I visit and patient appointments and driving, its like taking part in a semi-controlled tornado. But besides the schedule and missing my boys like crazy, I don’t mind the travel. I like to find the local good eats and even took part in some local hot yoga in Memphis on my last trip.
To balance all the work craziness, the boy and I have settled on an awesome vacation. In September we’re going on a family Disney Cruise around Ireland and England!!! I know that Ray will be to young to “appreciate” it, but lets be real, there is NO vacation he will remember at 1. So we picked one that we will remember and love as a family trip. I have concerns about the flight to London, but the cruise ship has a nursery on board, so if we can just make it to the boat, we’ll be good.
He is getting so big, starting to crawl and pull up! I can’t handle it!
Hopefully you are enjoying your weekend and wherever you are, Happy Mardi Gras. Or as they say in Louisiana, Laissez les bons temps rouler.
