I don’t know if any of y’all have caught the sick bug, but as for us, I am sick of having a house of sick people.
First it was Ray
At the beginning of November baby Ray got the gunk. This included a lot of snot, coughing and on/off fever. Fever equals no daycare. So the boy and I played hot potato with a sick baby for an entire week. We took turns on who would stay home from one day to the next, and even had to split one day in half, the boy working the morning and I the afternoon.
Then the Boy
Shortly after Ray recovered, the boy caught a bug. After two miserable weeks, we found ourselves in an urgent care. We were given steroids, antibiotics and highly leaded cough syrup. He was still recovering from pulled rib muscles this past Wednesday, when he woke up vomiting. It started at 4 AM. By 7 AM he was totally pale and hardly able to get out of bed. I felt certain he had food poisoning, so there was no point in going to the doctor. All the same, I was concerned about him dehydrating. I’ve never seen anyone throw up so much and he couldn’t keep anything down. My nurse-neighbor assured me at the boy’s size, he had at least 24 hours before dehydration would be a problem. So that gave me some solace.
Luckily, I had already planned to work from home that day. Unluckily, Ray decided it was a day he wouldn’t tolerate being put down. So basically each time I changed the puke bucket (which was a lot) there was a screaming baby in the background.
Finally, at 2:30 pm when I hadn’t even had a chance to send an email, I loaded the baby up and took him to the gym. So I could work, not work out. Seventy percent of the reason we joined that gym was because they provide up to 2 hours of daycare a day. And during those 2 hours of freedom from a screaming baby and a puking husband, that high monthly fee, was worth it.
Kind of.
We’re finally recovering…
By the next day the boy was better, just extremely exhausted. Minus our goods from urgent care, we’ve survived these sick bouts with a lot of prayers, donated essential oils and rest. For that, I am grateful.
As we sang Joy to the World in church today, it dawned on me that in all our sickness, I have forgotten that this is actually a season of Joy. Tons of joy.
So as we settle into being recovered, I am refocusing. Christmas is about Christ’s birth. And this is a season of joy.
In light of joy, here are some pictures from our snow day, one of the most joyful days we’ve had recently.
These are a few I took with my actual camera. I don’t get the real camera out very often, but gosh I sure love the pictures from it. It was so fun to watch baby Ray explore the snow and it made for some really great shots.
P.S.
Dear Santa,
Don’t be fooled. This shirt does NOT apply to night time. Just thought you should know.
Wishing you all a healthy and joyful week as we lead up to Christmas!
