The boy and I celebrated our baby moon last weekend. I’m not gonna lie, when I first envisioned our baby moon, I had big ideas: Savannah, Georgia, the Florida Keys or maybe Hilton Head Island. However, as I started looking at costs and logistics of these grand vacations, nothing really fit our budget or time frame. Womp, womp.
Plus, almost everywhere we wanted to go had no direct flight option from NOLA, which is a hassle. I forget how spoiled we were in this regard when we lived in Houston.
One Louisiana thing I hadn’t crossed off my to-see list yet, was visiting a plantation. So we made an overnight stay at The Houmas House our baby moon.
Once we arrived, I realized it was actually the perfect baby moon. It was pristine, peaceful and fancy. All things we will probably not experience for a while.
The Houmas House has two dinner options: a fancy restaurant, or a super fancy restaurant. Since a baby moon is an excellent excuse for indulging, we opted for the super fancy one.
Latil’s Landing includes dinner in the original house built in the 1700’s and a seven course meal. The boy also got the wine pairings with each course. Baby Rose and I had tiny sample sips, just to make sure they jived with each dish.
We enjoyed every moment of our two and half hour dinner. We laughed when we couldn’t figure out at the silverware, we reflected on dating and marriage and moving to Louisiana, we savored various tastes that arrived with each course, we held hands. It was nice.
The next day we had breakfast in the “not-as-fancy” restaurant.
Clearly.
I had bacon, egg and cheese omelet that was done right. I’m talkin’ thick cripsy bacon and brie cheese y’all.
One of my favorite things about Houmas House was the attention to detail. Every little thing from the garden sculptures to the dishes had a story behind them. Check out these amazing handmade clay coffee cups and saucers.
After filling my belly with southern deliciousness, we took a tour of the plantation home. I’m not really big into history, except when you can touch it and see it first hand. Then I really love it. Did you know that before World War I Louisiana was home to 1/3 of the nations millionaires?! And back then even pregnant women had to wear corsets to try to push the baby bump under the skirt. That couldn’t have been healthy, right?
We loved the Houmas House, but the most important thing about a baby moon isn’t where you go at all. Heck, have a stay-cation if you want. The most important thing, is just to take some time out of the normal routine, enjoy, invest in and appreciate each other. Its that simple.
As for Baby Rose, he/she is doing well. We did finally secure a day care, and although not my favorite, it probably beats having Bourbon baby sit.
The baby continues to be pretty active. Infact, the boy and I went to the symphony Friday night and the baby danced around the entire time! It made for one wiggly mama, but I think baby Rose enjoyed it. I’m also pretty sure he/she likes blue bell ice cream, dark chocolate and lemonade from Chik fil’a because every time I eat those things he/she does a diddy.
I’m 35 weeks as of today. I can’t believe I can possibly get any bigger! My green shirt is surely going to burst before 40 weeks!
Before I finish, I have to share a few pictures from all the baby love that has been showered upon us. I already wrote about the Texas Fiesta shower, but later that week I had a work shower where my very sneaky co-workers and patients surprised me with a lovely lunch and generous baby gifts. This was especially shocking, because my patients have brain injuries, so I would have never guessed they would ALL be able to keep a secret from me ALL morning.
Later one of the patients admitted to one of the staff that he knew he had dressed up for a reason that morning, but had forgotten why until the shower. Y’all, my job is the best.
One of my co-workers saw this blog post of mine and went to TOM’s website to buy baby Rose these Rooster shoes, so he/she can match mommy. What a creative gift! I LOVE THEM! And did you know 2017 is the “year of the Rooster” per the Chinese calendar?!
Another co-worker’s sister made this beautiful blanket for baby Rose. Made it. Thats amazing!
She had asked what colors my nursery was, but hadn’t seen the nursery. I’m amazed at how perfect it fits in and how very soft it is.
There were also several more functional gifts from the registry, which will come in handy soon. But sweetest of all, was the fact that ALL the patients chipped in to get Baby Rose onesies and a generous Target gift card! Again, my job is the best.
I still need to post about the Catan shower, church shower and a nursery reveal is coming soon! But I’ll wrap this up for now as its getting pretty long.
This is my current mantra during these last few weeks leading to Baby:
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10.
I’m not always sure what “being still” really looks like, because life is so busy. Our culture alone is bombarded with busy.
But I’m trying to learn.
This verse helps to quite my mind and I hope it might do the same for you as well.

I’m so glad that you liked your work shower. I also thought that it was really sweet that all of the patients (all men) chipped in for the gift card. It was a lot of fun! I shall never forget your face when you had to walk into the room where the “firing” was taking place. Sorry about that. That part of the plan wasn’t planned well. (My fault) I’m laughing right now just typing this.
Can’t wait to meet baby Rose!
