So this week yielded a slight baby meltdown.
You see baby Rose had his/her 35 week ultra sound to make sure he or she was healthy.
First of all, I was pretty nervous for this ultra sound, because I figured it would be pretty easy to see the sex, so I kept my eyes closed most of the time. I told the ultrasound girl we weren’t finding out gender, but I was still pretty nervous, because I’ve heard so many stories of an accidental “he” or “she” slipping.
Luckily, the tech did a good job of not giving anything away. She did say that the baby was definitely head down and the head was “super low.” Its no wonder I have to pee ALL the time! Of course, about half was through all her measurements the baby started doing one of its little jigs and she had to chase the legs all over with her probe to get an accurate femur measurement. We were both cracking up.
She gave me these gender neutral pictures from the ultra sound. They include the mouth and the heart rate, can’t show too much at this point and keep gender a secret. The mouth looks like a duck, do keep in mind this isn’t baby Rose’s best angle 🙂
After that, I went and sat in the boring exam room. I’ve learned to bring all my work stuff to these appointments, because while I love my doctor, she tends to run quite behind schedule. Sure enough, an hour later, the doctor came in.
Now, up until this point the only report I’ve heard on baby Rose is that “everything looks perfect.” So naturally, I expected this report to be the same.
Initially, she was going in that direction. She said the baby made an 8/8 on its test (whatever test it had) and everything looked great. However, the baby is weighing a week ahead of schedule at 6 pounds 1 once (ALREADY!).
I told y’all it likes ice cream, dark chocolate and lemonade!
I’ve gained about 25 lbs, which is fairly normal at this point. So basically, its not my fault. Just sayin.
Anyhow, more concerning than the weight, is his/her head size. While the baby’s weight is ahead of schedule, its still fairly normal. The shocker, is that the head is huge, ringing in at the 97th percentile!
The diameter is currently measuring at 9cm. “The good news,” the doctor explained, is that she’ll let the head grow to “13-14cm” before requiring a c-section.
Now, I know this isn’t a catastrophe or anything. I mean there are real things that could be wrong with the baby. Scary things. This was not. In fact, it was kinda funny. But still, I wanted to cry.
None of what she said sounded like “good news“ to me. I’ve planned to have baby Rose naturally. I’ve listened to and/or read a thousand books on it and all the blogs. While I’m aware lots of people have c-sections for lots of reasons, I totally didn’t think this would happen to me. Everything has been great so far.
Now, even if I can go natural…YIKES!
Currently, the boy is in trouble because I’m pretty sure the big head is a Rose thing. This was also the first time I’ve had an inkling on what the baby might be….I think there’s a mini CJ in there. I can just see it with its engineer brain, probably calculating math equations right now.
As far as the baby being potentially ahead of schedule, well, thats not overly convenient either. I’ve planned to work until April 27th.
Apparently, babies don’t consult google calendar before planning their debut.
My fingers are crossed, though. Both the boy and I are super laid back, so chances are baby Rose will be too –right?! In fact, CJ was 10 days late entering the world. 10 days!
Speaking of, the boy’s birthday was this past Thursday. We celebrated with a fun dinner and I made him a Zelda cake. And by made, I mean I bought 3 bundtlets from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
Actually, I would’ve loved to make him a cake. But I have a day job, plus a big-headed baby to prepare for, so it just didn’t happen. Instead, I cut the 3 bundtlets into triangles and put yellow sprinkles on top.
See? A perfect Triforce!
If you don’t know what a Triforce is, its a Zelda power symbol thing, I think. Not my best work ever, but sometimes you just gotta be creative. He still loved it.
Anyhow, the summary of this post is, please pray that baby Rose’s head will grow slowly or remain as is until he/she is OUT of the womb.
Next week, I’m posting the Catan Nursery Reveal! I’m very pleased with how great everything came together, so stay tuned.
Ok, just one sneak peak of the cute little Catan mobile with the resources from the game: wheat, wood, sheep, rock and brick. The brick is hiding back there, but I’ll show you it all next week 🙂 It’s custom made from a very talented Etsy lady. You can find her shop here.
